Uterine Cancer Diagnostics

Uterine cancer diagnostics involve a combination of clinical evaluation, imaging, laboratory tests, and tissue biopsy to detect and confirm cancer of the uterus. The most common type is endometrial cancer, which begins in the lining of the uterus (endometrium). Less commonly, cancer arises from the muscle or connective tissue of the uterus (uterine sarcoma).

When diagnostic evaluation is needed

Common signs and symptoms include:

  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding (especially after menopause)

  • Bleeding between menstrual periods

  • Unusually heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding

  • Pelvic pain or pressure

  • Abnormal vaginal discharge

  • Pain during intercourse (less common)
